I have a mad love affair with WORDS. Therefore, when I see any large block of words grouped together I immediately have an uncontrollable urge to read them. Something in its appearance that makes me feel like I can't live without reading them, at the very least some of them, all of them, I want to read them! Now, that it's evident that I have a problem ... this problem makes me super vulnerable to not only reading books, but more often quotes that I come across on the internet.
With that being said, I usually am exposed to a large amount of crap on the internet (we all are). With this exposure, I've come to see some patterns and trends that pop up for days/months and sadly sometimes even years and people just bite on and run with it. Granted if I were to list past/present of these lame, washed out and TO mention pathetic quotes, we'd be here for a long time and we'd both leave angry. In hopes of not ruining our day too much, I'll only bring one to mind, "YOU ARE PERFECT."
Now I know what you're thinking ... how could I be against feeding society (especially a younger target group) self-esteem? Well, I suppose because I'm a terrible person, but I will go on for another estimated* four paragraphs explaining why I don't like the notion of "YOU ARE PERFECT."
The way my lenses see it is ... why even have the notion of "perfect" in there? We spend so much time (have my bachelors in both business marketing and economics -- I'm fully aware of the revenue aspect of what I am about to just say, so ignore rich/fat/bald men who capitalize off of this for the time being) brain washing the youth into thinking they need to be perfect in order to then spend a vast amount of time educating them that they're already perfect, but only after we've shown them what we as a society consider perfect to be and let's be real they are nothing like the images we've bombarded them with.
In my defense, I suppose all this blabbing MAINLY boils down to the fact that we shouldn't concern ourselves with the term "perfect." It's such inhumane bullshit to expect people to be not only great at things, but perfect. Seriously? Point out anyone past/present/future (even fictional) that's perfect! I mean, I'd totally shag Batman and he's nearly perfect in my eyes, yet he still has that moody little bitchiness in him that I would prefer my* PERFECT man not to possess. Why not encourage people to be good at multiple things that they are interested in and that itself as a package makes them fuckin' perfect (if I must use the word)? Which brings me to the simple thought that got me typing all this (and will probably have me still typing after its presentation) I RATHER BE GOOD COLLECTIVELY THAN GREAT INDIVIDUALLY or I RATHER BE GOOD MULTI-DIMENSIONALLY THAN GREAT SUPERFICIALLY or ... you get the point! There may be people out there in the world who will be better at a specific aspect of life than I am, but as a package deal I can outdo all those narrow minded souls who've spent so much time on one aspect of life and robbed them of everything else that they would've enjoyed.
[*my: which only demonstrates what we all know, so I won't go into it, but will point out that the term itself "perfect" is extremely SUBJECTIVE to the SUBJECT]
I mean these thoughts aren't unnatural or new or going to create a revelation in any one's life, but as long as it serves as a friendly reminder for even one soul, then I suppose I'm happy. Fuck, who am I kidding, I'm happy just as long as I get to write and have a momentary fling with words, so thank you for allowing me to waste your time.
Good day!
